City Restaurant

Our Story

City Restaurant was taken over from another Italian family in 1995 by Giuseppe and Margherita Pia, a couple with many years experience running small fish and chips shops. In 1996 they made it their own with an extensive refurbishment. The restaurant was an instant hit with locals and tourists, and became home for the next 25 years.

Their son Marco had worked in the restaurant since he was a teenager. He became Partner in 2009 after graduating with a Business degree from Heriot Watt University. Marco married Joanna the same year, and she came into the family business as Manager.

In 2010 the restaurant was extended into the upstairs flat. This was a big move, and an immediate success – the space upstairs has wonderful views and is a great place to sit and watch the world go by. The restaurant building (and branding) was further refreshed in 2015.

In 2020 the torch has been passed to us, Marco and Joanna, as Giuseppe and Margherita take a step back due to good old Grandparent duties although they still step back in at crucial times!

To make the restaurant, again, our own, we have redesigned the interior – moving away from the infamous red and adding landmark street art on the gable end – but keeping the same relaxed and friendly feel that all our visitors love. We are very excited for the future!
